Session 3

Session 1 | Session 2 | Session 3 | Session 4

GENERAL

Room 38 – ABIDE with Jesus through Meditation
Daniel and Amanda Bowman, Berlin Baptist Church
ABIDE = Always Belonging, Intentional Dedication Everyday. Using Richard Foster’s book, Celebration of Discipline, and the Bible, we’ll talk about what biblical meditation is not, discuss steps on how to make biblical meditation a regular spiritual discipline, and practice three strategies (imagination, divine reading, and memorization).

Room 50 – The Cultural War and the Christian
Bob Gillespie, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church
The cultural war began back in the garden when Satan said, “You can be your own god, you can make up your own truth.” From this original lie, we have evil rulers exploiting their subjects down through history. But Christians are able to discern what is truth and what is a lie. Satan wants to kill, steal, and destroy all of mankind but Jesus wants to give us life abundant.

Room 52 – Finding the Right Hills to Die On: Considering Theological Triage
Justin Guess, Grandville Baptist Church
Living in theological faithfulness together as the church can often be difficult to navigate. On the one hand, there are theological convictions that we must hold tightly. On the other hand, there are other theological issues where there’s room for a difference of opinion. So how do we know the difference? In this breakout, we’ll discuss how a process of theological triage can be helpful as we seek to be theologically faithful as the church.

Room 64 – Amazing Graces: Saving Grace(s) According to Calvinists, Lutherans, Arminians, & Roman Catholics
Jonathan Marko, Cornerstone University/Forest Hills Baptist Church
In this workshop, Dr. Marko will explain the different ideas of being born again/regenerated vis-a-vis grace from the perspectives of the various Christian traditions, incorporating an easy to follow whiteboard drawing.

Room 30 – Incarnational Fellowship
Doug Crawford, Bridge Fellowship
How can churches working together uniquely portray the gospel and glory of God to a world marked by divisiveness and strife? What did Jesus intend for His church? What did Paul expect from the first century churches? We’ll consider some current examples of how God is blessing church partnerships.

DISCIPLESHIP

Room 56 – The Discipline of Personal Worship
Terry Burlingame, Jamestown Baptist Church
Maintaining a regular time of meaningful Scripture reading and prayer can be a daily spiritual battle. We will consider the basis of this personal time with the Lord, the use of Scripture in prayer, some practices of the Puritans, and how to grow in love and appreciation for this time. It does not have to be a routine of drudgery; it can be meaningful and enjoyable.

Room 119 – Discovery Bible Study #1: R-R-O Method
Jake Tibbe, Forest Hills Baptist Church
Come participate in an inductive bible study called Discovery Bible Study (DBS). This method is suitable for many ages and stages, from elementary-aged children to the grayest and wisest, from unbelievers to new believers, to the Pauls and Timothys. This simple, reproducible, yet powerful method creates disciple-makers who are transformed by the Holy Spirit to abide with Jesus and produce fruit that will last to the glory of God the Father. This workshop introduces the R-R-O style of DBS.

Room 32 – 14 Intentional Moments
Doug Burrier, Sustainable Discipleship
Cake for breakfast might not be the best choice. Do you know the fourteen (we know, it should be seven or three!) predictable, Biblical moments in every disciple’s move to maturity? Do you know what they need at each checkpoint? It’s all in the Bible and all over our research. Know where your disciple is on his journey and give him what he needs exactly when he needs it!

Room 34 – Welcoming the Stranger and Sojourner
Gary Heim, True North Ministries/Magnify Church
Hospitality in the ancient Near East was vital for existence to travelers. As people opened their homes to strangers the weary traveler found welcome, food, and shelter. We too are fellow sojourners traveling through this dark and broken world. We too need safe places where we find welcome and spiritual connection with each other. This breakout will provide biblical insight and practical tools to enable small groups to be those places where weary travelers can find spiritual refreshment for their souls.

LEADERSHIP

Room 31 – Resolving Everyday Conflict
John Nixon, North Park Baptist Church
Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” But in our relationships, whether it be with a family member, coworker, church member, friend, or complete stranger, we often experience anything but peace. In this workshop, we will explore the nature of conflict and why it is inevitable and normal. We will also offer practical, biblical steps to heal disputes and guide us to peacemaking in our everyday lives.

Room 54 – Leadership Competencies
James Jeffery, Chapel Pointe
Discover the five essential leadership competencies based on the examples of Nehemiah and Paul and the largest research project on leadership competencies. We will discover how to become the spiritual leader God has called you to be in your ministry. We will also provide helpful tools for ongoing learning and leadership multiplication in the church.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

Room 66 – I Feel Invisible!
Darlene Larson, Hearts With A Purpose
“I am missing something in my life.” “I wish I had a sense of purpose.” Step into this workshop, be coached in a group with powerful life changing coaching worksheets to take inventory of your life, and discover what holds you back, what stirs your heart for His purpose, and what He has entrusted you with and your story. Then carry out your purposeful mission in the Kingdom — with great joy!

MEN’S MINISTRY

Room 131 – Where are the Men?
Ray Paget, Emmanuel Free Church
Men continue to be marginalized in society today. Traditional male-led roles are being rejected and ridiculed as old fashioned and even misogynistic. This attitude and practice has invaded the church without much protest or concern. This presentation is a call for Christian men to take their rightful and biblical roles seriously and stand as the God-ordained leaders they are called to be.

MISSIONS & EVANGELISM

Room 58 – Reaching Your Neighbors with the Gospel
Scott Klooster, Georgetown Bible Church
We will be exploring how a church or lay group can identify the distinctions between the local and cross-cultural people in their neighborhoods and examine the resources needed to reach people for Jesus.

CHILDREN

Room 126 – Teachers That Touch Lives
Anna Sytsma, Child Evangelism Fellowship
Think of your favorite teacher you had as a child. Most likely much of what you remember is the person and their influence on your life. In this session we will take a look at you as the teacher. We will discuss what teaching is, how important the teacher is and what God says about teaching. As a result, my prayer is that you will be seen as the most memorable to the kids you teach.

Room 128 – Children’s Ministry with a Purpose
Keith Buffinga, MI Bible Clubs
Many churches have used the same children’s ministry programs for years, but are those programs still meeting the spiritual needs of the children? In this session we will discuss setting Biblical goals for your children’s ministry, evaluating your current programs against those goals, and keys to helping your children’s ministry programs achieve the purpose that God has for your ministry.

Room 132 – The How of Child Protection Policies/Background Check (Part 2 of 2)
Jeremy Herron, Providence Church Frisco, TX
Join us as we continue to learn about abuse and child protection for ministry leaders. Because we believe that child protection is a matter of Great Commission significance and biblical stewardship, we need to be wise in how we provide this protection. In this workshop, we will provide ministry leaders with resources to assist them in prevention and connect with area churches and ministries that value child safety.
